I think they are trying to say that the domain
is is the x-value of only 3 points:
( 1,0 )
( 2,1/2)
( 4, 1 )

The domain is:
D{ 1, 2, 4 }
Since the domain is only 3 values, the the range
can only be 3 values:
R{ 0, 1/2, 1 }
