Question 1017536: Use your graphing calculator to find all radian solutions in the interval 0 ≤ x < 2π for the following equation. Round your answers to four decimal places. (Enter your answers as a comma-separated list.)
sex x+ 1 = cot x
Note: I turned everything into sines and cosines then found common denominators, but was unable to understand what must be done next. Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! they were asking for a graphical solution which means all you had to do was graph the equations and find the intersections on the graph.
if i understand the problem correctly, you would do the following:
graph the following equations on the same graph.
y = sec(x) + 1
y = cot(x)
then find the intersections between the intervals of x = 0 to x = 2pi.
i used the desmos online calculator and got the following:
the calculator is great but it only rounds to 3 decimal places.
it told me the intersections were at (.443,2.107) and (2.193,-.717).
i then went to the ti-84 plus calculator that i have and was able to graph and use the trace function to find the same answers.
rounded to 4 decimal places, the intersections are (.4431,2.1069) and (2.1926,-.7167).
the desmos calculator handles sec and cot.
the ti-84 doesn't.
it does handle cos and tan, so you need to enter sec(x) as 1/cot(x) and cot(x) as 1/tan(x).
