You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the nut house sells walnuts for $4.00 a pound and cashews for $7.00 a pound.how many pounds of cashews should be mixed with 10 pounds of walnuts to obtain a mixture that sells for $5.50 a pound?
------------
Let Amt of walnuts be "x" lbs; value is 4x dollars
-------------
Amt of cashews is "10-x" lbs; value is 7(10-x)=70-7x dollars
---------------
Amt of mixture = 10 lbs; value = 5.5*10 = 55 dollars
----------------------
EQUATION:
value + value = 55 dollars
4x + 70-7x = 55
-3x = -15
x = 5 (# of lbs of walnuts in the mixture)
10-x= 5 ($ of lbs of cashes in the mixture)
--------------
