Hi there,
Anne’s age is 5 more than twice Matteo’s age.
a)A = 5 + 2M
b) How old is each person if the sum of their ages is 38?
A + M = 38
Replace A with (5 + 2M) from top equation.
(5 + 2M) + M = 38
Remove bracket
5 + 2M + M = 38
Collect like terms
2M + M = 38 - 5
3M = 33
M = 11
Anne is 27 years old
Matteo is 11 years old.
Hope this helps :-)
