x, x+2, x+4
have the property that when the difference between the first and twice the second is found the result is eight more than the third.
x - 2(x+2) = (x+4) + 8
x - 2x - 4 = x + 4 + 8
combine like terms
x -2x - x = 4 + 8 + 4
-2x = 16
x = 16/-2
x = -8
