how do i factor x^2-4x+24
----------------------------
It can not be factored into the product of two binomials with integer coefficients.

Apply the quadratic formula.

The roots are x%5B1%5D = 2%2Bi%2A2sqrt%285%29 and x%5B1%5D = 2-i%2A2sqrt%285%29.

The factorization is

x%5E2-4x%2B24 = %28x-x%5B1%5D%29%2A%28x-x%5B2%5D%29 = %28x-2-i%2A2sqrt%285%29%29%2A%28x-2%2Bi%2A2sqrt%285%29%29.

You can't factor it; the polynomial is prime.
You can solve using the quadratic formula, if it is an equation. It will give complex roots.
x=(1/2)(4 +/- sqrt (16-96)); sqrt -80=4i sqrt (5)
x=2 +./- 2i sqrt (5)
