You can put this solution on YOUR website! Two hikers, Alan and Ben, are 16 miles apart and walking towards each other. They meet in 4 hours.
 Find the rate of each hiker if Ben walks 0.4 mph faster than Alan.
 :
 let s = Alan's hiking speed
 Ben is .4 mph faster, therefore
 (s+.4) = Ben's hiking speed
 :
 When they meet, the sum of their distances = 16 mi
 They both hike for 4 hrs
 :
 Write a distance equation; dist = speed * time
 4(s+.4) + 4s = 16
 4s + 1.6 + 4s = 16
 8s = 16 - 1.6
 8s = 14.4
 s = 14.4/8
 s = 1.8 mph is Alan's speed
 then
 1.8 + .4 = 2.2 mph is Ben's speed
 :
 :
 Check this, find the actual dist each traveled, should add up to 16.
 4(1.8) = 7.2 mi
 4(2.2) = 8.8 mi
 -----------------
 total dist: 16 mi
