You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A bicyclist rode into the country for 5 hours, in returning her speed was 5 miles/a hour and the trip took 4 hours. what was her speed each way.
Assume you mean the return speed was 5 mph faster than the outbound speed
:
We know the distance into the country is the same as the return distance.
:
Let s = speed into the country
Then
(s+5) = return speed
:
Write a distance equation: Distance = Time * speed
:
In dist = back dist
5s = 4(s+5)
5s = 4s + 20
5s - 4s = 20
s = 20 mph into the country and 25 mph is the return speed
:
Check solution by finding if the distances are equal
5 * 20 = 100
4 * 25 = 100
