Question 1015449: I was given this equation: x/x+5 = 2/x+5 - 2/3 And told that I need to find the "excluded value." I'm not entirely sure what this means, and I do not know how to solve this problem. Any sort of help would be immensely appreciated. Thank you. Found 2 solutions by macston, Alan3354:Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
"Excluded values" are values that would make the denominator equal zero.
Since division by zero is undefined, these values are excluded from
being solutions.
.
Excluded value when: x+5=0
Excluded value when: x=-5
.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x/x+5 = 2/x+5 - 2/3
------
5x = 6
x = 6/5
===============
x = 0 is excluded because x/x and 2/x are undefined.
