Question 1015054: I have a problem that I have the ceiling height and net height off the floor for on my study guide. It asks how far away the boulder was from the catapult when it landed? The height of the ceiling is 28 feet and the equation for the problem is y=-2x^2+10x+12 I've tried really hard to solve it but I can't seem to figure it out. It wants to know how far the Boulder was from the catapult when it landed.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x is the distance along the floor away from the catapult, y is the height from the floor.
So find x when y=0.
-2x%5E2%2B10x%2B12=0
x%5E2-5x-6=0
You can factor,
%28x-6%29%28x%2B1%29=0
Two solutions but in this case only positive solutions make sense.
x-6=0
x=6
