Question:
The sum of three consecutive integers is -72. find the numbers.
Answer:
Here you have three consecutive number...
So you can take them as, a, a+1 and a+2
their sum is -72
==> a +(a+1)+ (a+2) = -72
==> a + a + 1 + a + 2 = -72
==> a + a + a + 1 + 2 = -72
==> 3a + 3 = -72
Subtract 3 from both sides...
==> 3a + 3 - 3 = -72 - 3
==> 3a = -75
Divide both sides by 3
==>
==> a = -25
Hence the answer.
Also you can find out the three numbers.
a = -25
a+1 = -25 +1 = -24
a + 2 = -25 + 2 = -23
So -25, -24 and -23 are the three consecutive number. and the middle number is
