Probably, you want to solve this system although you do not say it directly and explicitly.
For it, substitute the expression x = y+1 from (1) into equation (2).
By doing so, you will exclude the unknown x and will get a single equation for the unknown y:
-2*(y+1) + 3y = 2, or
-2y - 2 + 3y = 2, or
y = 2 + 2 = 4.
Hence, x = y + 1 = 5.
