We use N° for the measure of the unknown angle.  Then:

      90° + N° = 389°

Subtract 90° from both sides so as to leave only the N°.

90° + N° - 90° = 389° - 90°

            N° = 299°

Now the unknown angle is not unknown anymore.  It's now KNOWN! :)
