.Jerry washes his car in 2 hours 15 minutes. His son Timmy can wash the same car in 1 hour 25 minutes. How long it takes if they work togather?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Jerry's rate is  1 : 215%2F60 = 1 : 21%2F4 = 1 : 9%2F4 = 1%2F%28%289%2F4%29%29 = 4%2F9 of the car per hour.

Timmy's rate is  1 : 125%2F60 = 1 : 15%2F12 = 1 : 17%2F12 = 12%2F17 of the car per hour.

When they work together, their rate is 4%2F9 + 12%2F17 = %284%2A17+%2B+12%2A9%29%2F%289%2A17%29 = 176%2F153 of the car per hour.

So, it will take 153%2F176 of an hour for Jerry and Timmy to wash the car working together.

Jerry washes his car in 2 hours 15 minutes. His son Timmy can wash the same car in 1 hour 25 minutes. How long it takes if they work togather?
Jerry takes 2%2615%2F60, or 2%261%2F4 hours to wash car
Therefore, Jerry can do 1%2F%282%261%2F4%29, or 4%2F9 of car in 1 hour
Iimmy takes 1%2625%2F60, or 1%265%2F12 hours to wash car
Therefore, Timmy can do 1%2F%281%265%2F12%29, or 12%2F17 of car in 1 hour
We then get: 4%2F9+%2B+12%2F17+=+1%2FT
176%2F153+=+1%2FT
176T = 153 ------- Cross-multiplying
