Question 1013314: Molly is one third the age of her mom. In 12 years, Molly will be half the age of her mom. How old are Molly and her Mom, now? Found 2 solutions by fractalier, josmiceli:Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Call Molly's age x and Mom's age y NOW.
Then
x = (1/3)y or y = 3x
In 12 years,
x + 12 = (1/2)(y + 12)
Now substitute and get
x + 12 = (1/2)(3x + 12)
x + 12 = (3/2)x + 6
Now subtract x and subtract six from each side and get
6 = (1/2)x
x = 12 so that
y = 3(12) = 36
Molly is 12 and mom is 36.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let = Molly's age now
Let = Mom's age now
