You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = 4y-5
x+y = 11 substitute for x:
4y-5+y = 11
5y= 16
y= 3.2 is the smaller of the numbers
x= 4(3.2)-5; x= 12.8-5; x= 7.8
-------------------------
Proof:
x+y= 11
3.2+7.8= 11 we have the correct answer

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
N=one number; A=another number
.
N=4A-5
.
N+A=11
(4A-5)+A=11
5A-5=11
5A=16
A=16/5
.
N=4A-5=4(16/5)-5=64/5-25/5=39/5
.
CHECK:
N+A=11
16/5+39/5=11
55/5=11
11=11
.
ANSWER: The numbers are 16/5 and 39/5.
