2x-y=5..........eq.2

using the substitution method, first solve x%2B2y=10.........eq.1 for x
x=10-2y.........substitute it in eq.2
2%2810-2y%29-y=5........solve for y
20-4y-y=5
20-5y=5
20-5=5y
15=5y
15%2F5=y
highlight%28y=3%29
now substitute it in x=10-2y and find x
x=10-2%2A3
x=10-6
highlight%28x=4%29
