You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Call the number of nickels and dimes, n and d. Then we can write
5n + 10d = 445 (we will work in cents)
Also, we have
d = 2n - 3
Now substitute that into the first equation and get
5n + 10(2n - 3) = 445
5n + 20n - 30 = 445
25n = 475
n = 19 nickels
d = 2(19) - 3 = 35 dimes

-------
Value Equation:: 5n + 10d = 445 cents
Quantity:: d = 2n-3
------------------------------------
Rearrange for elimination:
n + 2d = 89
2n- d = 3
------
Modify::
2n + 4d = 178
2n - d = 3
---
Subtract and solve for "d"::
5d = 175
d = 35 (# of dimes)
----
Solve for "n"::
n = -2d+89
n = -70+89
n = 19 (# of nickels)
