Question 1012764: My school is one of the best in the United states and we are advanced. I am in 6th grade and we are doing algebra. We use a website called Edmodo and in the website we have "Snapshots". I tried solving a question but it was a little difficult.

Question: "In a school election, Jared received 76 votes, which was 40% of the total number of votes cast. What was the total number of votes cast?"

What I did: It was a multiple choice so I thought for a while and then I figured out that we needed 60% more to get to 100%. Since 40% is only 20% away from 60% I got 20% from 76 which was 15.2 so I added that to 76 and I got 91.2 as an answer. Then what I did was that since the 60% was 91.2 I added 91.2 + 76 which equals 167.2 but that answer was wrong so I was really confused.

I am sorry if my school had the best education where i live, yet their questions are a bit, eh, complicated I'll say. I hope it's not too much to ask for!!!!!!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Question: "In a school election, Jared received 76 votes, which was 40% of the total number of votes cast. What was the total number of votes cast?"
-------
Let the total number of votes cast be "x"::
-------
Equation:
0.40x = 76
-----
x = 76/0.4 = 7600/4 = 190

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi dear,
let the number of vote cast be x
If he recieved 76volt that ws 40% of the total,then
we can say that 76=40% of x
then,

multiply out and get
40x=7600
divide bothside by 40 and get
x=7600/40
x=190
the total number of vot cast was 190.
HOPE THIS HELPS?
 Best regards,
