I will assume this means "factored in the Real Number System".
You have a quadratic with a=1,b=1,c=-k
The discriminant is b^2-4ac
The quadratic has Real Number roots (and therefore Real Number
factors) if b^2-4ac>=0
-------
So 1^2-4*1*(-k)>=0
1+4k>=0
4k<=1
k<=1/4
-------------
The quadratic will have Real Number factors if k<=1/4
