sqrt(529) = 23

23^2 = 23*23 = 23 * (20 + 3) = 20*23 + 3*23 = 460 + 69 = 529.

easiest way is to use your calculator.

manually, you might do something like the following:

20*20 = 400 = too small
25 * 25 = 625 = too big
22 * 22 = 484 = too small
24 * 24 = 576 = too big
23 * 23 = 529 = just right.

using your calculator you would just find sqrt(529) = 23.

alternatively, 529^(1/2) = 23.

each side measures 23 feet.
