You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = number of dimes Jill has
y = number of dimes Joan has

"Jill has six times as many dimes as Joan"
x = 6y

together they have a total of 84 dimes
x+y = 84

------------------------------------------------

x+y = 84 ... focus on the first equation

6y+y = 84 ... replace x with 6y (x = 6y)

7y = 84

7y/7 = 84/7

y = 12

Use this to find x

x = 6y

x = 6*12 ... replace y with 12 (since y = 12 was found above)

x = 72

Jill has 72 dimes

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Jill has six times as many dimes as Joan
if Joan has x dimes, then Jill has 6x dimes
if they have together a total of 84 dimes, then
x%2B6x=84
7x=84
x=84%2F7
x=12
so, Jill have 12 dimes
answer is: B. 12

The problem says:"Jill has 6*Joan, and it says that together, this is 6*Joan+Joan= 84. So let's call the dimes x:
6x+x= 84 Add x on left:
7x= 84 Now divide both sides by 7:
x= 12 Joan has 12 dimes, and Jill has:
12*6= 72
------------------------------
Check:
Joan has 12 and Jill has 72:
12+72= 84, we have the correct answer.
