Call the regular price of a TV set, x.
That means he paid (1/2)x for the second one.
Together he paid x + (1/2)x = (3/2)x = $9750.
Solving (3/2)x = $9750, we multiply both sides by 2/3 and get
x = $6500
(must be some really BIG TVs)
