Those were the angle measures. If segments BA and BC are congruent, then this means angle C is congruent to angle A, so both these angles will be 3x+5. Why? You just described isosceles triangle. Angle C is congruent to angle A.

Sum of the interior angles of the triangle is 180 degrees.
