Call Julia's and Tina's age NOW, j and t. Then we have
j = t + 9 and seven years ago
j - 7 = 2(t - 7)
Substituting we get
t + 9 - 7 = 2(t - 7)
t + 2 = 2t - 14
Rearranging we get
t = 16 years
