Question 1008305: Graph the function y=absolute value of x + 2 by translating y=absolute value of x.
Hello, this is a problem on my homework but we haven't gone over it. I think my teacher put it on there because our school district moved the test up by a week and my teacher is speed teaching. Anyways if this is on the test i need to understand it so please help, thanks!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Reference function y=abs%28x%29, having critical value at x=0, because that is where the sign changes. V shaped, sharp point as a minimum.

Think of that sharp minimum point as a point of reference within the function abs%28x%29. What happens upon translation using abs%28x%2B2%29? Where must be x in order for abs%28x%2B2%29 to be same value as abs%280%29?

With the "translated", meaning moved, newer function, x must be -2 so that
abs%28-2%2B2%29=abs%280%29.

abs%28x%2B2%29 is MOVING abs%28x%29 to the LEFT by two units.

Reference graph, absolute value function
graph%28300%2C300%2C-4%2C4%2C-4%2C4%2Cabs%28x%29%29

Moved absolute value function two units to the left, y=abs%28x%2B2%29
