It depends on where the two hikers start relative to each other. It is possible that they never meet if the uphill hiker starts out uphill of the downhill hiker. They could meet immediately if they start out facing each other a foot apart.

If the downhill hiker is at the top of the hill and the uphill hiker is at the bottom of the hill, then it would be necessary to know if the hill is Mt.
