x=6-y and -3x=2-y, x=%282-y%29%2F%28-3%29, x=%28y-2%29%2F3.

Equate the formulas for x.
6-y=%28y-2%29%2F3
18-3y=y-2
-3y-y=-2-18
-4y=-20
highlight%28y=5%29

x=6-y
x=6-5

Just subtract one equation from the other to ELIMINATE "y," and determine the value for "x"

Then substitute that value for x into any of the 2 original equations to get the value of "y."
