Father's past age = 32
Your past age = 8

x = number of years that passed
Father's age now: 32+x
Your age now: 8+x

2*(your current age) = father's current age
2(8+x) = 32+x
16+2x = 32+x
16+2x-x = 32+x-x
16+x = 32
16+x-16 = 32-16
x = 16

32+x = 32+16 = 48
8+x = 8+16 = 24

After 16 years have passed by,
Father's age now: 48
Your age now: 24
