Dimes = x
Quarters = y
x + y = 58.......(1)
10x + 25y = 985.......(20
Multiply Equation (1) by 10
10x + 10y = 580......(1)
10x + 25y = 985.......(2)
Subtract Eq (1) from Eq (2)
.....15y = 405
.......y = 27
Substitute y = 27 in Eq (1)
x + y = 58
x + 27 = 58
x = 58 - 27
x = 31
there are 31 Dimes and 27 Quarters
