Set up two equations
x + y = 175........(1)
500x + 1000y = 100,000......(2)
Multiply Equation (1) by 500
500x + 500y = 87,500.......(1)
500x + 1000y = 100,000......(2)
Subtract Equation (1) from (2)
......500y = 12,500
.........y = 25
Substitute y = 25 in Equation (1)
x + y = 175........(1)
x + 25 = 175
x = 175 - 25
x = 150
The lady was given:-
150 x Rs500 notes
25 x Rs1000 notes
