Make the width = 'x'
Length = 4 + 3x
Perimeter = 2 x Width + 2 x Length
72 = 2(x) + 2(4 + 3x)
72 = 2x + 8 + 6x
Collect like terms:
2x + 6x = 72 - 8
8x = 64
x = 8
Width = 8 metres
Length = 28 metres
