You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Winthrop has $4.40 worth of nickels and dimes. If Winthrop has 3.5 times as many nickels as he does dimes, how many dimes does he have?
-----
Value Equation: 5n + 10d = 440 cents
Quantity Eq:::: n = 3.5d
-------
Substitute for "n" and solve for "d"::
5(7/2)d + 10d = 440
-----
17.5d + 10d = 440
----
d = 16 (# of dimes)
----
n = (3.5*16) = 56 (# of nickels)
-----------
