Question 521236: Mr. Smith had to pay 75 cents a square foot for a glass to replace a broken window which was square and measured 4 feet from top to bottom. Yet Mr. Smith paid $6.00 for the single sheet of glass required to fix the window. Explain this total.
I am unsure how to convert to square feet. Only thing I could come up with was P=16 and multiply that by the .75 which gives you 12. So from there all I can say is he got it half off but as i said i dont know how to do square feet. THank you Very much!!

Square feet are simply measures of area.
.
75 cents per square ft is the cost of the glass.
.
He paid $6 for the glass, so you he bought 600 cents worth of glass.
.
At 75 cents per sq. ft, he bought 8 sq ft of glass.
.
The area = 8 sq ft
.
The height = 4 ft
.
So the width has to be 8/4 = 2 ft.
.
2 ft * 4 ft = 8 sq ft
