Question 427046: Hello, My question is:
"The H.M.S. Dreadnaught is 10 miles north of Montauk and steaming due north at 15 miles/hour, while the U.S.S. Mona Lisa is 70 miles east of Montauk and steaming due east at an even 40 miles/hour. How fast is their distance apart increasing?"
I know that will be the sum of miles that they are
(10*15) + (70*40) = 2950
But, I don't the rest. I think it will be divided by something, but I don't know what. I'm stuck on that question. Can you please help me on that?

When solvinga problem of distance involving 2 vehicles,where is the beginning and ending point to measure on the vechile in order to figure out how many miles they went? DO you start to measure at the back end of the vehicle and end at the beginning of it? Do you measure them front to front or what? Thank you so much for your help.....Inquiring minds want to know.

Question 427726: Jake has a Car with an 8-Gallon fuel tank. Jake fills his tank with gas and then drives 60 miles to a friend's house. when he gets to his friend's house he has 6 gallons left in his fuel tank. how many miles can jake travel on a full tank of gas?
I have tried it several ways:
8*60
and
6*60/2
but i'm sure that those wont give me the full tank amount.
