jane runs 12 miles a day.

how many miles does she run in 76 days?

12 * 80 = 960

12 * 70 = 840

75 is close to 76 and halfway between 70 and 80, therefore your answer will be halfway between 840 and 960.

960 - 840 = 120.

half of 120 = 60

add 60 to 840 to get 900

subtract 60 from 960 to get 900.

that would make the estimate about 900.

another way to estimate would be 10 * 75 + 2 * 75 = 750 + 150 = 900.

12*76 = 912
Miles = approximately 911.
Call 911.

You can get a good estimate by multiplying by 75 instead of 76.

Multiplying by 75 is not too hard, because it is 3/4 of 100. So

12+%2A+75+=+12%2A%28%283%2F4%29%2A100%29+=+%2812%2A%283%2F4%29%29%2A100+=+9+%2A+100+=+900

So 900 is a good estimate for 12 times 76.
