Question 996064: The time taken by an airplane to travel from one city to another is 20 min more than 1/8 of the time taken by a train. Find the time taken by the airplane if the time taken by the train is
(A) 12 hours
(B) t hours
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the time taken by the train equal to T hours.
the time taken by the plane is equal to 1/8 of this plus 20 minutes.
that's equivalent to T/8 + 20/60 = T/8 + 1/3 hours.
that's your answer to part B.
if the train takes 12 hours, then the plane takes 12/8 + 1/3 hours.
that's equivalent to 1 and 1/2 + 1/3 hours which is equivalent to 1 and 5/6 hours.
that's your answer to part A.
