The hyena should run the distance in  0.3  mile more than the giraffe to overtake the giraffe.  The speed of the hyena relative to the giraffe is  40 - 32 = 8  miles per hour.

Hence,  the hyena will overtake the giraffe in  0.3%2F8 hour = %280.3%2F8%29%2A60 = 2.25  minutes = 2 minutes 15 seconds.
