You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The rate of approach for A to B is 60-40=20 mph, and the distance to close is 5 miles.

20%2At=5
t=1%2F4 hour;

Car A traveled 60%2A%281%2F4%29=15 miles, and since car B was ahead at the start, car B traveled 10 miles.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
gaining speed 60 -40= 20 mph
headstart 40*0.125 =5 miles
time to catch up 5/20=0.25 hours
time to catch up =15 minutes
algebraic solution
40(t+0.125)=60t
40t+5.0=60t
5.0=60t-40t
5.0=20t
0.25=t
.25*60=15 miles to catch up
The car at 60 mph is going a mile a minute,
