Question 859398: Two people start walking at the same time in the same direction. One person walks at 5 mph and the other person walks at 6 mph. In how many hours will they be 0.5 miles apart? Answer by ramkikk66(644) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Since one person walks at 5 mph and other at 6 mph,
in one hour the first person would be 5 miles from starting point and the second
person would be 6 miles away.
Distance between them after 1 hour = 6 - 5 = 1 mile.
So every one hour, the distance between them increases by 1 mile.
So hours it would take for the distance to be 0.5 mile = 0.5 hour or 30 minutes!
Check: In 30 minutes, first person would cover 2.5 miles and second person would
cover 3 miles. Distance between them = 3 - 2.5 = 0.5. Correct!
Hope this helps :)
