A Lion runs 50 miles per hour in pursuit of a zebra running at 40 miles per hour. If the initial distance between them was a quarter of a mile, how long will it take for the lion to catch the zebra?
------------------
The lion "gains on" the zebra at 10 mi/hr (50 - 40)
d = r*t
t = d/r
t = (1/4)/10
t = 1/40 hour
==================
PS Lions don't run at 50 mi/hr

A Lion runs 50 miles per hour in pursuit of a zebra running at 40 miles per hour. If the initial distance between them was a quarter of a mile, how long will it take for the lion to catch the zebra?
The lion is approaching the zebra at the rate of 50-40 or 10 mph.
10 mph is:

10 miles per 1 hour, which is
10 miles per 60 minutes, which is
 1 mile per 6 minutes, which is
1/4 mile per 6/4 minutes, which is
1/4 mile  per 1.5 minutes.

Answer: 1.5 minutes.

The other tutor says a lion cannot run 50 mph. According to this
site

a lion can run 50mph and a zebra can run 40mph,
just as this problem states.
