Question 758397: Please help me answer this question.As soon as possible please. It is due this afternoon.
A,B and C travel from the same place at the rates of 5,6 and 8km an hour respectively. If B starts 2 hours after A, how long after B must C start in order that they may overtake A at the same instant.
I know that---
Speed= Distance divided by Time
Time= Distance divided by Speed
and
Distance= Speed times Time
Thank You :)

You can put this solution on YOUR website! A,B and C travel from the same place at the rates of 5,6 and 8km an hour respectively. If B starts 2 hours after A, how long after B must C start in order that they may overtake A at the same instant.
***
A, B & C travel the same distance.
let x=travel time for A
x-2=travel time for B
distance=speed * travel time
5x=6(x-2)
5x=6x-12
x=12 hrs
x-2=10 hrs
distance=5x=60 km
let t=travel time for C
8t=60
t=60/8=15/2=7.5 hrs
C starts 2.5 hrs after B to overtake A at the same instant
