From 8 am to 2 pm is 6 hours, so Susan drove at miles per hour for 6 hours and therefore travelled miles. Carol only drove for 5 hours, because she left one hour later. But she travelled at miles per hour, so she travelled miles. Those two distances have to be equal, so set them equal and solve for . Once you know , Susan's speed, you can add 7 to get Carol's speed. Calculate to get the distance traveled. Then calculate to check your work.
