Write an equation for each statement
:
Bob traveled a total of 20km by running and walking.
r + w = 20
:
One third of the distance he walked equaled one half of the distance he ran.
w = r
multiply both sides by 3, we have
w = 1.5r

in the first equation, replace w with 1.5r
r + 1.5r = 20
2.5r = 20
r = 20/2.5
r = 8 mi running
