Question 69387: kindly solve and show the solution for this problem.....
For their daily training, two athletes jog every morning. They start 9 km apart and start to jog toward each other. Athlete A jogs at 10 kph while Athlete B jogs at 12.5 kph. In how many hours will they meet? What is the distance covered by each athlete? Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! For their daily training, two athletes jog every morning. They start 9 km apart and start to jog toward each other. Athlete A jogs at 10 kph while Athlete B jogs at 12.5 kph. In how many hours will they meet? What is the distance covered by each athlete?
---------
Athlete A DATA:
rate = 10 kph ; time = x hours ; distance = 10x km
-------------
Athlete B DATA:
rate = 12.5 kph ; time = x hours ; distance = 12.5 km
--------------
EQUATION:
distance + distance = 9 km
10x + 12.5 x = 9
22.5x = 9
x= 0.4 hours (they will meet in 0.4 of an hour or 24 minutes
-------
Athlete A will have jogged 0.4(10 kph) = 4 km
Athlete B will have jogged 0.4(12.5 kph) = 5 km
-----------
