At 10am, a car leaves a hiuse traveling 60 mph. At the same time, another car leaves the same house traveling 50 mph in the opposite direction. At what time will the cars be 330 miles apart? Found 2 solutions by oberobic, Earlsdon:Answer by oberobic(2304) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The cars are moving in opposite directions so they are getting farther and farther apart at their combined speed: 50+60 mph = 110 mph.
.
At 110 mph how long does it take to go 330 miles?
.
330 miles/110 mile/hr = 3 hr
.
The question as "at what time" will they be 330 miles apart.
10 a.m + 3 hr = 1 p.m.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Use the distance formula: where: d = distance traveled, r = rate or speed of travel, and t = the time spent in traveling.
For the first car: Substitute: so...
For the second car: Substitute: so...
Now since you want the time at which these cars will be 330 miles apart, = and hours.
Add this to the starting time of 10:00am to get 1:00pm
