Let x and (x-33) represent the speeds of the cattle and diesel trains respectivley

Question states*** D = rt  Total distance for both trains is 1284mi

  18x + 12(x-33) = 1284

        30x = 1680

          x = 56mph, the speed of the cattle train.  the diesel 23mph
