Let x and (x+4) represent the time the car and truck traveld respectively

Question states*** Note: D = r*t  (distance the same for both)

  55x = 45(x+4)

Solving for x

   10x = 180     

     x = 18hr, time car traveled.     

    55mph*18hr = 990mi, how far they traveled.
