a car traveled at a steady speed for 130 km. due to a mechanical problem, it returned at half that speed.
if the total time for the round trip was 4 hours 30 minutes, find the two speeds?
:
Let s = the slower speed
then
2s = the faster speed
;
Write a time equation, time = dist/speed
+ = 4.5
find s, by multiplying by 2s, results:
130 + 2(130) = 4.5(2s)
you should be able to solve it now
