Hi,
Let x represent minutes to walk 5/8 mi
question states
.5mi%2F5min+=+.625mi+%2F+xmin+
x = .625/.1 = 6.25 min

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The formula is (distance) = (rate) x (time), or
d+=+r%2At
Juan's rate of walking is
1%2F2 mile / 5 min = 1%2F10 mile / 1 min
Now use the formula
5%2F8+=+%281%2F10%29%2At
Multiply both sides by 10
t+=+50%2F8
t+=+6.25 min
It takes him 6 1/4 minutes to walk 5/8 of a mile
